Water Compliance and Sampling

Confidence in every drop

Here at ByWater, we provide comprehensive water testing, monitoring and reporting, to support you in ensuring your system meets legal requirements, so that you can operate with confidence. Saying compliant with water regulations isn’t just about ticking boxes, it’s about knowing your systems are safe, reliable and doing exactly what they should be.

Our engineers are on hand to carry out on-site sampling and performance checks across all types of systems, wash bays and discharge points. Water testing is essential to ensure compliance and a diligent, safe practice. We supply the treatments needed to correct any issues that may be on the report, helping you through every step of the process.

What do we test?

Our water sampling can test for:

For safety and environmental compliance, it is important that you test your water and ensure you don’t have any harmful bacteria. If you’d like your water tested for anything more specific, please don’t hesitate to send us a request, and we’ll get an engineer to you as soon as we can!

We work to Environment Agency, HSE and local water authority standards, providing clear documentation that supports audits, inspections and ongoing certification.

Why regular water testing matters

Water systems naturally change over time – build-up, contamination or mechanical wear can all affect performance. Regular testing helps you:

Environmental influences on water quality and system performance

Weather and seasonal changes

Rainfall, temperature and sunlight have a major impact on water quality. Heavy rain can dilute contaminants or introduce new ones through run-off, whilst hot weather raises the temperature of stored water and encourages microbial growth. Seasonal shifts often change pH, clarity and nutrient levels.

Site conditions and land use

What happens around the water source matters. Construction activity, soil disturbance, fertilisers, fuel storage, vehicle movement and cleaning operations can all affect the type and volume of contaminants in the water. Testing needs to reflect what’s happening on the ground.

Organic material and biological activity

Leaves, grass, algae and general organic matter can influence turbidity, nutrient levels and microbial activity. As this material breaks down, it can alter pH and oxygen levels, making water appear very different from one week to the next.

Chemical interference

Detergents, oils, fuels, polymers and other chemicals used on site may change test results if they enter the water stream. Some can affect chlorine readings, disrupt coagulation or alter how solids behave during settlement.

Why safe commissioning and decommissioning matters

Infrastructure and storage

The condition of tanks, pipework, dosing equipment and pumps can also shape water quality. Stagnant sections, dead legs or poorly maintained tanks can cause bacteria to build up or solids to settle in places they shouldn’t.

Human activity

Frequent washing, high footfall, irregular system use or operational changes all influence water quality. A system that’s quiet for weeks and then suddenly heavily used will produce very different testing outcomes.

Our approach is practical – no unnecessary testing, just what’s needed to keep you safe, compliant and in control.

Tailored compliance support

Every site is different, and so are its compliance requirements. We tailor testing schedules and reporting formats to fit your operation, whether you manage a single wash bay or a complex treatment network.

You’ll receive straightforward results and clear advice, not just data, so you can take action quickly if anything needs attention.
